Shape project!

We learned about shapes. We learned their vertices, sides and angles. We also learned whether it was 2D shape or a 3D shape. I love shapes. We got to practice naming shapes and playing with them. We even made shape people that talked! We made them talk using chatterpix. Chatterpix is like an app that you slide across and create a mouth. Then when you record, a moth moves for you. 3D shapes

 

Here we were learning about 3D shapes. We took pictures of things in our classroom that were 3D shapes. We had to make these collages using an app called pic collage. We got to pick a background and label the shapes we found in the classroom. That was so much fun! My favorite part was being with my friends and finding the shapes. It was like a scavenger hunt. Multiplication Wall

The multiplication problem wall was really fun to create. We each had to pick an item from our house and bring them to school and we glued them to our multiplication problem hands. We made a word problem using the hands and the item. We showed that groups of items is how you learn multiplication. We each had different items. It looks really cool in our classroom. By: Lion

Measurement Me

We made a project about measurement and us. We had to draw ourselves and then measure yourself. We made a small model of ourselves by showing how long in inches our body was. We got to color it and glue yarn hair onto it. It was cool to see the measurement models and we hung on the wall so we could see how we learned to measure. By: Komodo Dragon

Counting Money!

We played a money war game. You get two cards from a deck of playing cards and you flip the two cards over and you try to draw coins to make that amount. We can make it in two different ways. By: Komodo Dragon

We also used a cool app called Neapod. The app asks us questions and Miss Crowley controls it. She makes a presentation on it and we each get to answer the questions in her presentation. It's tons of fun when we use it. By: Koala and Shark

We played a math game called, "Money Spin." We have a pen and a little paper clip and a circle board. You use the pen to spin the paperclip. It lands on different coins. We take turns and add up all our coins to see who can get to 100 cents or $1.00 first! By: Panther

There is also a level on ST Math for money. You get the coins and you put them in a square to get to a  certain price. You have to count the coins and make sure you have the right amount. If you get the right amount then Jiji can get across the screen. By: Lion

I love using the plastic coins and getting to use the spinner to count to a dollar. By: Wolf

Egg-cellent Multiplication Eggs

When we used the multiplication eggs, we made groups of blocks inside of the eggs. The eggs showed us how to solve multiplication problems. We then used our recording sheet to write down the eggs we created and then we showed repeated addition. It was fun and we loved using them as Manipulatives. By: Horse

Math Facts

This week we practiced our math facts. We played lots of games and worked hard to memorize them. We played one game, where we rolled dice and had to add them up. We had to do as many as we could in ten minutes. Then we played an app called Math Slide. We were in groups of two and we battled for speed. We had two minutes to play them and then we switched teams. It was really fun!! 

Finally, we played another game where we rolled the dice and added up them quickly. Whatever the answer, we looked on our game board to see if we had it. Then we would put a circle marker on it. The person that made four in a row first won! We had a great time practicing our facts this week! By: Basset Hound. 

Measurement Videos

We made videos about measuring things in our classroom. We took pictures of different things and then we used an app called Pixntell to make videos. We told people what we would use to measure each picture. For example if you wanted to measure a ball, you would use a measuring tape because its goes around things that are circles. You should watch some of our videos. We love making videos! By: Raccoon 

2MC's Lucky Little Leprechauns

This week we made leprechaun projects and we put a pot of Gold next to them and they were under a rainbow. Each pot had money in them and we had to glue it and count the money to find out how much money the leprechauns had. Then we wrote funny stories about how we found leprechauns in our backyard. Each story was different and they were all really funny. I wrote about how when I was playing in the backyard with my toys, and then I heard this noise in the bushes and how I caught him and let him go and how I will catch in a jar every time he comes back! Measuring!

We had partners and we were going to measure the paper airplanes and how far they went with feet and inches. We used an inch ruler and a measuring tape to measure. First, we had to make the paper airplanes. Everyone made them differently. Then we had to throw them. After that, we had to mark where it landed with chalk and where we were standing. Just in case the wind blew the paper airplane. Then we measured the distance and it was so much fun! We loved doing it!

Measurement!

This week was a lot of fun! We learned a lot about measuring. We went outside and we jumped and we estimated how far we jumped. Then we measured with a ruler to see how many feet. Then we figured out how far it was in inches.

We also this week, made measurement gardens. You can see the picture of some of them. We had to color the flowers and cut them out. Then we had to put them in order from smallest to greatest. Finally we had to measure them in inches. It was fun!

We love learning to measure.

The Estimation Jar

 

Each week the Apostles of the Week get to fill up a jar with stuff. They have to count the items and give our teacher a note or an email that says how much is in the jar. Then the Apostle brings it to school and we look at it all week. Then on Thursday we get to vote using the iPads. The person that was the closest wins! I put Legos in my jar! Jiji travels the World

We have an app on our iPads called ST MATH.  It is a cool app. On the app you play math games and you get percentages every level you move up. Our class is working hard to get everyone to a 100%. Jiji is the ST MATH penguin. He plays the games with us. Every ten percent our class gets, he moves to a new place. When we got to ten percent, he went to Canada. When we got to twenty, he went to New York. Then he went to France. Now we just got to 40%! He is in Tanzania, which is a country in Africa. When he moves to a new place, our teacher gives us a party! We can’t wait until we get to 50%!

Snowman Clocks!

 This week we started to talk about time. We remembered what we did in first grade and showed Miss Crowley what we know. Then we did centers. One center was on ST MATH, one was practicing subtraction and the last center was making a time snowman. His body was a clock and his hat showed the time on his hat. We loved making them! By: Puppy

Mr. Turkey loves subtraction

This week we made subtraction turkey. They were so much fun to make. I love subtraction. There was a subtraction problem on each feather. Some of them needed us to borrow, but others didn't. We had to solve the problems and put the turkey together. We also got to use our iPad to make a problem. We had to draw what it meant to borrow. It was learning about how to do subtraction.

ST MATH

We love playing ST Math during Math rotations because we are getting to really high levels in Math. It teaches us lots of cool things. 

You have a really long password and it was hard to learn it at first, but now it is so easy!! 

We try to get this penguin to the other side. His name is Jiji. 

Here is a picture of a level I beat! In this level I had to get jiji to the platform. He lost some blocks along the way. I had to figure out how to help him by choosing how many blocks high he was on. It was really cool.

Mr. Bones loves Addition

 We made skeletons and decorated them with a hat and a bow tie. There were math problems on the skeleton's bones and we had to solve them and then we had to put him together and we put them next to our pictures for second grade. They were hard math problems because they were 3 digit addition and we had to regroup. Not all of them had to regroup. Some you didn't have to. We put them together in different places. The bones were all different. All of them looked different. Some look like they are dancing. Mine looks a skeleton that is dancing on water. By: Saber Tooth

10 more! 10 less! 100 more! 100 less! Candy Corn!

We picked a number. We did ten more and ten less and one hundred more and one hundred less. We wrote our answers down on the candy corn for the lesses and the mores. We also drew pictures to show how we knew the answer. We had lots of fun making them. We're going to hang them up during October. By: Fish

Applesauce

We made applesauce in class together. 

It was really good. We got the apples from our field trip to the apple farm. Miss Crowley bought the apples that we picked. Wolf's mom has to peel them and cut them. It was nice of her. 

We had to learn how important it is to use correct measurements when making recipes. We used a cup, and a tablespoon to measure out the sugar, water and cinnamon. 

First, we put it in a pot. We put sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and water in the pot. We stirred it and turned the pot on. We had to wait all day for it to be cooked. When it was all done, we got to eat it. It was really good. It was the best I've ever had! We had fun making applesauce in class.

Graphing!

This week in math we learned about graphing. We learned how to read and make bar graphs and picture graphs. It's really easy. These are some of the graphs we made in class! 

You had to have a partner and we would put together the skittles and what colors we had. We made a graph of the colors that we had together. It was fun doing the skittles because after you finished the graph, you got to eat the skittles. 

The color graph was fun because when you rolled the dice, you got to stamp what color it was. First, we had to make a tally to record what colors we had before we stamped it. We had fun stamping and working with graphs.
