A Second Grade Blog

As part of the Katherine Drexel Initiative, our school took on Blended Learning this year. As a result, students will be learning with an emphasis on the integration of technology. Not only will teachers enhance their whole class instruction with laptops, ipads, document cameras, and projectors, but they will also be using it to differentiate their instruction to reach each and every child's needs. As a result, they will be able to address an individual's ability, interest and developmental level.
Teachers will combine their everyday best practices with technology, so as to teach students to think critically, collaborate with others and communicate their understanding. Finally, they will be taught to ethically and responsibly use technology.
This blog is a means by which they can begin to do all that. Each week two students from each class will be in charge of writing a post on their class page about what they've been learning. They will be working in groups to brainstorm, craft and edit each others posts. Students will also be responsible for monitoring visitor's comments, and commenting on each others' posts.
Stories, and projects that students create will be posted for parents to see, enjoy and occasionally download.
This blog will hopefully be a wonderful way to not only teach technology and its various uses, but also to document the year's progress to share with others.
Hope you enjoy it!

  1. Very cool idea! I think both the kids and parents will really like to see the progress over the year! Kudos to Mrs. Coulter and Miss Crowley for incorporating this into the curriculum.
